X-plore Your Faith

X-plore is a series of monthly meetings (usually held on the second Sunday evening of each month), designed for people who want to think through their faith in the context of a rapidly changing contemporary culture.

Meetings are held in the chancel of the church from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m., and are followed by tea or coffee. They are very informal in style, and everybody is very welcome!

We believe that X-plore will benefit us as individual Christians. And we believe that, by helping to develop a thoughtful, well-informed membership, it will aid the mission of our church as a whole.

Some topics covered in 2007:

ÒWorship: what, when and how?Ó

ÒChristian MeditationÓ

ÒIs Jesus God, or only the son of God?Ó
ÒWhy did Christ die on the cross?Ó
ÒHow is God Ôthree-in-one and one-in-threeÕ?Ó

X-plore Programme 2008

January 13

The first of three talks on the way the Church has grown and changed over the past 200 years. Why is the Church today the way it is? How did our beliefs and practices evolve from those of the early Church we read about in the Book of Acts?

Revd Val Abbott

March 9

The second of Revd Val AbbottÕs talks on the history of the Christian Church. We tend to think that it was Henry VIII's matrimonial difficulties that brought the Church of England into being, but the causes of the Protestant Reformation were much more widely based. Why was the Church ripe for reform? Who were the leaders of the ecclesiastical revolution which swept the world in the 15th-century? And are there lessons we can learn in our own time, with the church in decline and many voices telling us it needs to change? Grapple with these issues with us!

April 20

This month's meeting is on the third Sunday, not the customary second.

The Revd. Val Abbott will be giving the last of her Church History talks - "The Modern Christian World - Division and Diversity" - at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday 20th April.

May 11

ÒSpeak, Lord; your servant is listening.Ó

This X-plore meeting looks at the devotional use of the Bible in an age when many people have doubts about its authority. This will be an opportunity to ask questions and share difficulties and insights.

With Margaret Roberts and John Poarch.
