Christian teaching
is given through our sermons, through fellowship groups, which meet weekly or fortnightly in people's homes, and through occasional lectures and discussions.

There are also meetings designed to help "enquirers" learn about the Christian faith, for example the well-known Alpha Course, and Christianity Explored. Confirmation Classes are held annually.

Spiritual fitness, like physical fitness, soon slips if exercise is neglected. One important spiritual exercise is meeting together for mutual encouragement. In this Benefice (Almondsbury, Olveston and Aust) we have a number of fellowship groups to which you are warmly invited.

Please look at the Going For Growth noticeboard for the latest prayer requests.

Alpha Course

We run an Alpha course every autumn; everyone is warmly invited – come along and see if this might be for you. ItÕs an informal group, meeting in Almondsbury Vicarage on Wednesday evenings for a ten-week course. Contact Philip or Alison Rowe if you are thinking of coming or would like more information – phone 01454 613223, or email office@stmaryssevernside.org.uk.

From the Alpha website: ÒGuests attend for a wide variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples' beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.Ó

Other Fellowship Groups

Thursday Evening Home Group – Contact Paul and Pam van Rossum for information.

Christianity Explored – for those wishing to learn more about the Christian faith. Contact Philip Rowe for details.

Friday Morning Bible Studies for mums, meeting on alternate Fridays in Almondsbury Vicarage – contact Alison Rowe (613223) for details. Breakfast included! Children welcome.

In World Mission USPG Cell Group. Partly a home group and as such will meet occasionally, but emphasis will be as much on get-up-and-do as in sit-down-and-talk. Canon John Poarch is the convenor.
